Questions for Interviewing a Contractor

1. How long have you been in business? Since 1960


2. Who will manage our project? 3-4 people (owner, manager/designer, production manager, lead person on job)

a. What are his/her qualifications? Owner (G.C., CR), Manager/Designer (CR), Production Manager (CLC), Lead person on job (Journeyman or CRC or CLC)


3. What are your customer satisfaction levels? Very high. We have high minimum standards for our quality and services.

a. How do you gauge satisfaction? Opinion letters, customer comments, repeat business, referrals
b. What percent of business is repeat customers or referrals?
About 80%


4. What do you do to make sure that the project will be completed on schedule? Prepare a calendar of events, constantly monitor project status.


5. How do you make sure that workmanship quality is up to your standards? Inspections by building officials, site checks by production manager, site checks by the company owner.


6. What Trade Associations do you belong to?
NARI, US Chamber, ICBO, ICC, and NFIB

7. Have you won any awards? West Bests (Best Kitchen Remodeler), Big 50, Contractor of the Month,  2005  Los Gatos Readers' Choice Awards (1st Place Contractor and 1st Place Construction Co.)


8. What type of educational courses have you or your employees taken?
Our employees take various seminars to improve their skill levels. (eg. NARI Certified Remodeler and Certified Lead Carpenter classes). We also have employer monitored training programs and weekly mandatory safety and professionalism meetings for all employees.


9. Will you take care of all permits and dealings with the building department? Yes, this is one of the many services we offer.


10. What kind of warranty do you offer? 3 years on Summit labor and materials without manufacturer’s original warranty


11. May I see some completed projects (kitchen, bath, addition)?
This is subject to our past clients' availability. We respect the privacy of our clients and do not wish to burden them after their projects are complete. Many do, however, like to show off their projects and the request to visit may be granted.

12. May I visit a job site currently in progress? This may be possible pending approval from our clients. Again, we must respect the client's privacy.
